Resort Overview
This beautiful Ski resort Mayrhofen comprises of 172 lifts and 620kms of dazzling skiing, there's so much variety and mileage for even the keenest of skiers. The major areas link a la Française but this is the Zillertal, featuring the kind of Austrian charm that even the natives go on a skiing holiday for! Ski in Mayrhofen for picturesque villages, snow-covered meadows, forest runs, and classic Austrian ski travelling represent the tradition and soul of the sport. On The Slopes
Anyone who skied in Mayrhofen a few years ago will be delighted to see the changes. Jumbo gondolas, gargantuan cable cars at altitude and new covered chairs have swallowed a lot of the infamous Mayrhofen queues. The powerful snowmaking facilities keep the slopes fresh, appetising and in good shape. There's tremendous skiing variety for everyone, even experts and off-piste fans.Mayrhofen ski resort has the separate Ahorn, which is almost entirely devoted to beginners. Here you'll find un-crowded, high nursery areas on good snow. The gentle, confidence inspiring rounded hills are very conducive to learning. Although there is plenty of local skiing, it's definitely worth using the superb free transport system to access other ski areas and villages. Mayrhofen links with Lanersbach meaning those taking ski holidays in Mayrhofen have access to the biggest single area (140km) in the Ziller valley. Above Mayrhofen, the Penken-Horberg offers mostly intermediate skiing with tree runs, smooth cruises and some tricky stuff above the tree line all on great snow.
10mins away are Zell am Ziller and Gerlos, old favourites from decades ago which now share a wonderful ski area of 115kms. The massive Hintertux glacier, at the top of the valley, is 40-45mins away and is included on your lift pass. There's over 90km of glacier skiing and loads of choice, which is very rare for a glacier. Kaltenbach and Hochfugen were linked together a couple of years ago and can be reached by jumping on skibus within about 20-25 minutes. We hope eventually to see virtually the whole 620km linked by lift and piste. That'll be quite something!
Snowboarding
The terrain at Mayrhofen is great for snowboarders and the Burton Park regularly voted one of the best in Europe is located in Horberg-Hochtal in the Penken area. The park has a variety of jumps and rails and a 150 metre half pipe as well.Off The Slopes
